The Assessing Department is responsible for the identification and valuation of all real and personal property within the City of Riverview. Personnel appraise new construction, reappraise existing construction, calculate land values, administer the principal residence exemption program, record sale data and property transfers in compliance with the all applicable statutes New construction and plats are added to the Assessment Roll as of December 31st each year.

BOARD OF REVIEW

The Board of Review consists of four (4) freehold residents of the City of Riverview. One (1) member serves as Chairperson, with two (2) serving as regular members and the fourth as an alternate, should another member not be available to serve. After assessment notices are mailed to taxpayers of Riverview, the Board of Review meets on the second and fourth Mondays in March to hear assessment value appeals. After the close of the Board's meetings in March, the assessment roll is final for the current year.

In the months of July and December, the Board holds meetings on proscribed dates for the purpose of correcting "mutual mistakes of fact"and "clerical errors" which have occurred.

2020 March Board of Review
The 2020 March Board of Review will convene in the City Hall at 14100 Civic Park Dr, Riverview, MI 48193. The meeting is scheduled as follows:
APPEAL HEARINGS  
March 9, 2020 @ 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM
March 23, 2020 @ 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Other hearing dates and times may be scheduled as needed. Hearings are by appointment only. COMPLETED 2020 BOARD OF REVIEW PETITIONS ARE NECESSARY, and must be submitted to the Assessor’s Office, prior to your appointment. The deadline for submitting petitions for all persons wishing to appeal in person before the Board of Review is Friday, March 20, 2020.

 

A resident or non-resident taxpayer may file a petition with the Board of Review without the requirement of a personal appearance by the taxpayer or a representative. An agent must have written authority to represent the owner and it must be submitted to the Board of Review on the form prescribed by the assessor’s office. Written petitions must be received by Friday, March 20, 2020 to be reviewed by the Board. Postmarks are not accepted.
   Copies of the notices stating the dates and times of the meetings will be posted and published in the local newspaper.
    All Board of Review meetings are open meetings in compliance with the “Open Meetings Act”.
